Shabby, Chic Lawns

This is another article that struck me this summer as being different.  The Wall Street Journal had this piece on the new shabby chic lawn.  Sort of like the guy with torn up jeans and t-shirt, but with fine leather shoes and belt.  See Page D1 of the July 18, 2012 edition.

I think that this is a message that we need to really study here in Central Texas.  The evaporation rates here are so high relative to the East/West Coast, or even the bread basket areas.  Our ecosystem more than any of those, benefits from taller grasses which keep the warm winds from carrying off our soil moisture.  Think of tall grasses as skin moisturizer, or SPF cream.  The more we think of our soil as an extension of our bodies, the better our soil responds.
